Jonathan Cook on tooth-fairy politics

This piece by Jonathan Cook is perhaps the perfect compliment to the Dissident article; it’s been clear for a long time that the UK is a dystopia, enabled by pretend liberal media.

The Dissident on the US election results

The Dissident seems to skewer most of the main issues in the US election result, although it perhaps doesn’t pay enough attention to the racism and religious fundamentalism within some sections of American society that also contributed to Trump’s victory.

George Monbiot on extreme wealth

A simultaneously awful and beautiful article by George Monbiot. In the MPG we have discussed whether there a link between the frictionless experience of top executives and their willingness to ruthlessly attack workers; about how capitalism disconnects people from the world and relationships; like the guy in his boat, completely disconnected from the awe and beauty of the natural world, like many of us are with our food consumption, it being disconnected from producers via the interface of supermarkets…and other endless examples.

Review of The Anxious Generation by William Davies

This review by William Davies of Jonathan Haidt’s new book ‘The Anxious Generation’, as featured in the latest edition of the London Review of Books is an excellent corrective to Haight’s ‘generation snowflake’ analysis, and a very sobering take on the plight of so many young people in the UK.

Chris Hedges’ post election live stream

This recent edition of The Chris Hedges Report on Substack covers such a lot of ground in terms of the topics that we often discuss within the Midlands Psychology Group, such as corporate power, interest and the failure to address inequality, from American and geopolitical perspectives. Some parts maybe get stretched conceptually so to speak, when both Republicans and Democrats are dismissed as more or less the same Neolibs.
